Is there a cap on damages in medical malpractice cases in North Carolina?

North Carolina has a cap on noneconomic damages (such as pain and suffering), such as pain and suffering, in medical malpractice cases. This cap was set at $500,000 in 2020, but it is adjusted for inflation every three years, and it does not apply to cases involving severe permanent injury or disfigurement.
